TMJ Disorder

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders are group of problems related to the compound jaw joint. If someone has symptoms like a “clicking” sound or pain, they will be glad to know that these problems may be easily diagnosed and treated. Some types of TMJ problems may lead to more serious conditions. Early detection and treatment of these problems is important. Treatment takes time to be effective. There is no one treatment that can resolve TMJ disorders.

There are many reasons why TMJ disorders develop. A person might grind or clench their teeth. This causes tightening of the jaw muscles which results in stress to the temporomandibular joint. The jaw joint may be damaged due to disease or injury. The symptoms may include pain, clicking, grating noises, or a misaligned bite upon opening mouth, as well as difficulty in opening wide.
